Diabetic Foot Care & Education
For those who have recently been diagnosed with diabetes, those with diabetes for years, or even those who are considered at-risk, it is important to understand the effects diabetes can have on your feet.

Recently Diagnosed

Diabetes is a disease that affects the blood glucose levels in your body.  When these levels are higher than average, the sugar in our blood can cause microscopic injuries to your blood vessels. This can lead to poor ability to heal and nerve damage, caused by lack of oxygen and nutrition reaching the nerves.  When this happens, nerves may begin to lose sensation which can create unnoticed injuries and wounds, with combination of poor circulation. Serious complications can include, but are not limited to, infection and amputation.
